Irvine Meadow boss George Grierson raids former club for first signing and insists: "Fans will love him"

New Irvine Meadow boss George Grierson has raided former club Whitletts to make Louis Kerr his first signing.

Ther 25-year-old midfielder today completed a switch from Dam Park, bringing to an end an eight-year spell with the Ayr club.

And Grierson admits he's absolutely over the moon to be reunited with the player.

He told Ayrshire Football News: "Louis is the first player I thought of going for when I came here.

"There's been Premier Division interest in the boy so we're delighted he's decided he wants to play for Irvine Meadow.

"The Meadow fans will love him. He's a proper number 10 who will link up the midfield with our strikers.

"His free-kicks and corner kicks are absolutely unbelievable. He'll score goals for us and we're delighted to get this deal over the line."

Kerr scored 38 goals in 147 competitive appearances for Whitletts, a good return for a midfielder.

Manager Gordon Pope admits he's disappointed to be losing the talisman and reckons Meadow are getting a player in his prime.

Speaking to the club's website www.whitlettsvictoria.com Pope said: "There’s absolutely no doubt that Louis is a very talented footballer and while we didn’t want to lose a player of his ability, once the right deal for the club was agreed, there’s no way you can deny him the opportunity to showcase his talents in the top league.

“Louis has been an excellent servant to the club over the past eight years and is now just reaching his prime. His ability is not in doubt and I’m sure he will thrive in his new challenge and he leaves with the best wishes of everyone connected with the club"

Kerr is expected to go straight into contention for Saturday's home West of Scotland Premier Division clash against Hurlford United.
