Irishman reportedly shot dead in Australia

An Irishman has reportedly been shot dead in Australia.

The man, who has yet to be formally identified, was found by officers in the Chifley Police District who responded to a call from Jenolan Street in Oberon just after 8am on Thursday, February 9, the Sunday World reports.

Upon arriving at the house police reportedly found the body of a man who had suffered a gunshot wound. Although he was treated by paramedics from the New South Wales ambulance service, he died at the scene.

The man is reportedly aged in his 30s, and a native of Sligo.

A man was subsequently arrested following the shooting at a house in the Central Tablelands in New South Wales. The 57-year-old suspect was brought to Oberon Police Station, where he is currently being held.

A crime scene has been established in the house which will now be examined by specialist forensic police. A firearm was also seized, and will be subject to further examination by the specialist team.
