Irishman dies in early morning hit-and-run in London

An Irishman has died following a hit-and-run in the UK.

The 62-year-old was struck by a van in Northumberland Park in the north London borough of Haringey. The incident happened around 12.30am on Monday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Additionally, a man in his 30s has been arrested after the van failed to stop following the crash, the Irish Mirror reports.

A police spokesperson said that “despite the efforts of emergency services, the pedestrian – a 62-year-old man – was pronounced dead at the scene”.

"The driver of the van did not stop at the scene. Following a police investigation, the van was found a short distance away.” Witnesses have been urged to contact the police.
