Local reports in Cyprus are claiming an Irish man has died following a tragic sea incident that occurred on Friday.
According to in-cyprus.com, the man lost consciousness while he was swimming in Paphos - a popular coastal city in southwest Cyprus - at the Blue Lagoon beach.
Authorities and emergency services rushed to the scene where he had been brought to shore.
He was given first aid but unfortunately remained unresponsive.
The 63-year-old was then transferred to the district’s general hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An autopsy is due to be carried out on Monday, however, the victim has not yet been named, as there are members of his family that have yet to be informed, according to police.
It is understood that foul play is not suspected, but that investigations are ongoing into the exact cause of his death.
