Irishman clinging to life after he and his dad assaulted while they celebrated birth of baby

A man is clinging to life after he and his dad were assaulted by a mob as they celebrated the birth of a baby.

Sources told The Mirror that Dylan McCarthy, 29, suffered serious head injuries in the attack by up to six men.

An insider said last night: “It is looking very bad for him.”

Dylan, from the Kilmallock area of Co Limerick, was hit at 12.30am on Sunday.

He and Eamon, who is in his 50s, were out in Monasterevin, South Kildare.

Sources said the pair, were first targeted in a pub before they were attacked as they walked on a road.

Dylan is believed to have been punched to the ground – and then kicked at least once in the head as he lay on the roadway.

The source added: “His injuries are extremely serious There is a brain bleed and he may not survive.”

Eamon was being treated for non-life threatening injuries in Portlaoise General Hospital last night, while Dylan was in Tallaght Hospital in intensive care.

Locals in Kilmallock said prayers were offered for both men in the church yesterday.

A Garda spokesman appealed for witnesses.

He added: “The scene is preserved for forensic examination and no arrests have been made at this time.”
