Irish X Factor star Eoghan Quigg unrecognisable 14 years on from stint on talent show

He became a teenage heartthrob overnight when he auditioned for the X Factor in 2008.

Eoghan Quigg, 30, from Dungiven, was just a fresh-faced schoolboy when he first wowed the judges with his vocals and marketable look with his cheeky grin and trademark spiky hairstyle.

The Northern Irish singer, aged just 16 at the time, was catapulted to fame on the talent show in the same year that Alexandra Burke won and boyband JLS finished second.

With Simon Cowell as a mentor, Eoghan made it onto the live shows and placed third in the competition overall.

14 years on, the Irish charmer looks worlds away from his teenage days and, after riding on the coattails of fame in the years that followed X Factor, is now a proud father.

Eoghan no longer looks baby-faced and now boasts two full sleeves of tattoos.

His blonde highlights coiffed into a spiky look are a thing of the past with the singer preferring a comb-over look nowadays.

Eoghan was previously open about having a hair transplant back in 2020 after feeling "so insecure" watching it receed over a period of years.

He wrote at the time: "I have to say it is the best decision I have ever made. For men, losing their hair can be such a stressful experience and one that we maybe don’t often open up or talk about enough."

He lives in Derry with his girlfriend Amy Campbell, whom he first started dating in 2015.

Eoghan is now a father to daughter Emmy Belle, 17 months, who he welcomed with Amy in April last year. He also plays an active part in the lives of Amy's two children from a previous relationship.

Following his stint on X Factor, Eoghan was due to be signed to Simon's record label but the music mogul ended up pulling out.

The teen went on to sign with RCA Records and released his self-titled album in 2009.

It placed 14th in the UK charts and his single 28,000 Friends only made it No 96 - seeing Eoghan dropped from the record company.

In 2014, Eoghan competed against five other acts to win the spot to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest with 'The Movie Song' but he finished second and did not go on to the Eurovision.

Deciding his music career was over, Eoghan then moved into football and joined Northern Irish football club Coagh United FC in 2015 before moving to Portstewart FC in the Northern Ireland Intermediate League.

Today Eoghan still follows his passion for singing performing with his Irish wedding band, The Housem8s.
