Irish woman 'gives up' on buying a house after property jumps 40% in price

One woman has said that she has given up on buying a house in Ireland after the price of a property she was looking at jumped 40% in price.

The modest-sized two-bedroom terraced house in Kilmainham in Dublin 8 had originally been advertised for sale at €345,000.

The woman, who was interested in the red brick property, had saved the advert on Daft.ie when she later got a notification saying that the property had "changed price".

The new price it was advertised for sale at was €480,000 - some €135,000 more than the original asking price.

However, the higher price did not put off other potential buyers as the property soon went sale agreed.

The frustrated woman took to Twitter to declare: "I give up" along with sharing screenshots of the two different asking prices.

Other "shocked" social media users took to the comments to have their say.

One person wrote: "Terrible, what chance have people got nowadays."

A second said: "Good lord. That is horrendous."

Another person wrote: "Absolutely shocking... no wonder the younger generation are emigrating."

And one woman said she had also been interested in buying the Dublin property and had watched the bidding war online until it eventually sold at nearly half a million euro.

She wrote: "Went to the open viewing last month and signed on to watch the bidding on the estate agent website. It was mad. Bids going up and up. Gone sale agreed at that price. Lovely inside but a nothing of a garden."
