An Irish tourist drowned while swimming in the sea off Menorca, according to reports.
The 69-year-old, who has not been named, was visiting the Balearic island on holiday when they got in to trouble in the area of Paupa near Cala Torret.
Onlookers pulled the victim out of the sea and tried to revive him before police and paramedics took over.
Resusicitation attempts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident happened on Friday evening and according to local reports he was on holiday with friends on the island.
The man is the third tourist to drown in Menorca this week after a 70-year-old from Britain died in a residential apartment block's pool on Monday and a 50-year-old Italian perished after reportedly suffering a heart attack while swimming in the sea on Tuesday.
Neighbouring Majorca has also seen several swimmers drown or need rescuing recently.
A 79-year-old tourist from Sweden, drowned on Friday, while a British holidaymaker had to be revived after getting into difficulties in water on Thursday.
Emergency responders resuscitated the 65-year-old after she was spotted face-down in the water at a beach in the popular resort of Puerto de Pollensa.
Police have said that she was rushed to hospital after life-saving CPR which was carried out at the scene for nearly an hour.
She was admitted to the intensive care unit of a private clinic called Hospital Quironsalud Palmaplanas.
It was not immediately clear whether she was alone at the beach, known as Tamarells Beach, when Thursday afternoon’s drama occurred.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard confirmed: “The alarm was raised just after 5pm.
“Lifeguards made the initial attempts to revive her after she was pulled out of the water before emergency responders took over and performed advanced CPR on her when they reached the scene.
“She was revived after about 50 minutes and rushed to hospital.”
Tamarells Beach, which has stunning panoramic views of the Puerto de Pollensa marina bay and mountains, has a popular bar restaurant.
Former British Prime Minister David Cameron is said to have had lunch there during a previous family holiday in the area.
