The Irish team have been videoed dancing to Taylor Swift in the changing rooms after a symbolic day for the sport.
The girls are seen singing along to the Taylor Swift hit “Love Story” in elation at the end of the match. The historic win marks a first for Irish football, as it is the first time the women’s team have qualified for the competition.
Ireland beat Scotland 1-0 after second half substitute Amber Barrett scored the only goal of the match in Hampden Park, Glasgow. She went on to win player of the match and paid homage to the victims of the Creeslough tragedy in her speech.

The Donegal native told reporters: “I know people who died and were affected by the tragedy and there’s been a sombreness about me in the past few days. I’m dedicating this award to those ten beautiful souls who perished on Friday and their families because this is for Creeslough.”
Amber added that the win marked one of the “best days of her life” in terms of football, while admitting that the last 20 minutes of the match were incredibly nerve-wracking for her and her teammates.
Pundits have said that the win is not only an incredible feat for the current team but the players that came before them. The team’s manager, Vera Pauw, previously said that a win for the team would have a “massive impact” on the sport.
She said in a press conference following the historic victory: “It will make a huge difference, not only for the game, not only for the joy that people feel, but especially for thousands of girls afterwards.”
The football team will jet off to Australia and New Zealand in November to compete in the FIFA World Cup. 32 countries will compete on the international stage in a bid for the title. The competition’s previous winners are Japan, Germany, Norway and the USA.
