Irish Rail cancels Ed Sheeran special ‘due to lack of demand’ as tickets remain for Ireland concerts

Irish Rail has cancelled some of its special late-night train services following Ed Sheeran's concert due to "a lack of demand".

The singer-songwriter is performing all across the country over the coming weeks, kicking off the Irish leg of his Mathematics Tour this weekend with two nights in Dublin's Croke Park.

He then travels to Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork to perform on April 28 and 29, before heading to Thomond Park Stadium in Limerick on May 5 and 6. The Irish stint of the tour finished in Boucher Playing Fields in Belfast on May 12 and 13.

Tickets are still available for all shows via the Ticketmaster website.

Irish Rail announced on Wednesday morning that it is cancelling two of its Ed Sheeran special services "due to a lack of demand".

It said the 00.40am Dublin Heuston to Cork service on Sunday morning, April 24 and Monday morning, April 25 will no longer go ahead.

"Due to a lack of demand, the 00:40 Heuston/Cork special services after the Ed Sheeran concert on Sunday morning (24/04/2022) and Monday morning (25/04/2022) have been cancelled," it posted on Twitter.

Customers who have purchased tickets for the trains will be contacted shortly and Irish Rail has apologised for any inconvenience.

It comes as fans have been promised that the Shape Of You hitmaker's shows will have "all the bells and whistles" with a stage set up "like nothing anyone has ever seen before".

Peter Aiken, of Aiken Promotions told the Irish Mirror: “This is the first year of his three-year world tour. It’s great that we’re getting the first date.

“It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen everything. It’s in the round and it’s all bells and whistles.

“It’s going to be so different from anything he’s ever done before.”

Ed Sheeran has already been spotted in Ireland, posing for photographs in Fitzgerald’s pub in Sandycove in Dublin where he also pulled pints behind the bar.

He also dined at Indian restaurant Rasam Restaurant in Glasthule on Monday night before heading to the pub.

Anyone heading to Croke Park this weekend is being advised that gates open at 4pm. Support acts are Denise Chaila and Maisie Peters. Sheeran himself is expected on stage at 8pm.
