A restaurant and bar in Naas, County Kildare decided to close its kitchen for two days due to temperatures of over 40C inside during the heatwave.

33 South Main is located on Naas' Main Street and is known for serving drinks as well as dishes such as burgers, wings, fish, steak and pizza.

Restaurant bosses too to social media to tell customers that the kitchen will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, July 18 and 19 due to the heatwave.

They explained: "Not a lot of people know this but even in normal outside temperatures the kitchen can get as high as 30+ degrees.

"With this in mind and along with all of the amazingly hard work our kitchen team have been doing lately we feel it is only fair with the weather warning that we close our kitchen this Monday and Tuesday."

They said that the temperatures in the kitchen can reach over 40C during a heatwave and that their kitchen staff will be "a well deserved rest".

Manager Andy Hogan told Dublin Live that the kitchen at 33 South Main is very busy and has hot pans, a pizza oven and fryers.

He revealed that during a stint of hot weather last year, they were feeding the kitchen staff ice pops to keep them cool.

The bar remained open on Monday and Tuesday to serve coffee, beer, cocktails, wines, spirits and soft drinks as well as crisps and peanuts.
