Irish people have been pondering why one type of food is on sale in Dublin Airport that may not be the most suitable for a long flight.
As visitors to the transport hub will know, passengers can purchase some types of fish products after passing through security, including smoked salmon.
However, one person has taken to social media to question how popular these items are and whether fellow travellers have ever bought fish before flying.
Taking to the Reddit Ireland forum, they said: "Who's buying fish at Dublin airport? I've always wondered why people do this. Have you ever done it?"
People had mixed opinions on purchasing the goods, with some saying vacuum packed fish can travel well, with others put off by the idea.
One person joked: "Where else are you going to buy pilot fish?"
A second said: "Nice pack of salmon or a cooked crab as a snack on a 3 hr Ryanair flight."
A third commented: "I never have because I live here and don't need to bring Irish salmon to Tenerife. But lots of tourists like to buy it at the last stop rather than putting it in their bag."
A fourth said: "I went through Cologne airport and they were selling eggs. Who the f*** buys eggs in the airport."
In defence of buying fish at the airport, a fifth added: "Smoked salmon (vacuum packed) travels very well. And Ireland makes fairly good one at that. We have escaped the bad press of farmed salmon AFAIK."
Someone else said: "I once bought a cooked crab from Wright’s. The person in England I bought it for was delighted.
"I’ve also picked up Clonakilty breakfast packs in there before, with bacon, sausage and puddings in it.
"The produce in Wright’s of Howth is some of the best that Ireland has to offer and is very much welcomed by people overseas."
While another chimed in: "If you mean smoked salmon from Wright's then more people than you realise. Smoked salmon is not available in a lot of countries so tourists and locals will buy it as a gift when leaving Ireland."
