Vodafone Ireland is turning green with a new initiative allowing customers to trade in their old smart phones for cash.
Despite the abundance of recyclable elements in smartphones, less than 15% are recycled or traded in.
Vodafone’s easy-to-use online tool assesses the value of a smartphone through a series of device health checks, including cosmetic damage, touch sensitivity, screen condition and rear camera capabilities.
In a matter of minutes, customers will receive a personalised quote for the value of their smartphone on trade in.

Existing Vodafone customers can avail of this green initiative through the online tool while non-Vodafone customers can trade-in their smartphones in store.
Vodafone is the first telecommunications company in Ireland to offer an online trade-in service, with customers receiving up to €400 for a smartphone.
Once the quote is received, customers can simply opt to trade in their handset by dropping it at a DPD collection point using a free postage label provided by Vodafone.
Once the device passes final checks, the customer receives payment directly into their bank account.
If an existing Vodafone customer or new customer wants to trade-in in store, they will be given store credit, which they can use towards the purchase of a new phone or accessories.
Trade-in devices are recycled and repurposed, creating a circular economy as the generation of waste is minimised and recycled parts are used in the manufacturing of new products.
The launch of this trade-in offer marks another significant planet-friendly step for Vodafone, who in June 2021 announced that its entire Irish operations including mobile and fixed networks, data centres, retail and offices were 100% powered by electricity from renewable sources, making it Ireland’s first green network.
Anita Carra, Consumer Business Director at Vodafone Ireland said: “Almost 5 million smartphones in Ireland that can be repurposed or recycled to help the planet.
“So we are delighted to launch trade-in online, which offers customers a quick and convenient way to trade in their smartphone.
“Vodafone Ireland is committed to reducing the impact of electronic waste and we have broadened our service offering in recent years to allow customers to keep their devices for longer through repair and insurance products and services.
“This new offer ultimately extends the life of mobile devices, reduces waste and encourages Irish consumers to embrace a circular green economy.”
