Ireland has ranked fifth on the list of most powerful passports to have in 2022.
Despite the fact that travel is technically possible across the globe with a passport and the appropriate Visa, some territories are harder to gain entry to than most.
There are 227 countries across the globe where you can only enter without extensive paperwork if you have a passport that grants you access.
However, just because you hold a passport from your country of citizenship, does not mean that you can travel freely to wherever you want.
Now that Covid-19 travel restrictions are beginning to be lifted across the globe, many are gearing up to leave Ireland for a brief respite, but have you ever wondered how many countries your passport allows you entry to?
According to the latest data released by the Henley Passport Index, Ireland is among the 15 most powerful passports to hold, and grants you visa-free access to 187 countries.
That leaves 40 countries where Irish passport holders may not go without a Visa, which includes places like Afghanistan, Cameroon, China, Cuba, Syria, and Yemen.
Portugal ranked joint fifth with Ireland for allowing entry into 187 countries, while Sweden, Denmark, France, Austria, and the Netherlands are fourth with 188.
Passports from Italy, Spain, Finland, and Luxembourg, all allow passengers visa-free travel to 189 countries landing them in third, South Korea, and Germany to 190 countries in second, while Japan and Singapore passports hold the top spot for granting access to 192 countries.
On the opposite end of the Henley Passport Index is Afghanistan, as its passports only give passengers visa-free travel to 26 countries.
Iraq and Syria follow close behind with 28 and 29 countries respectively.
