Irish parents warned over toxic chemical in popular children's paddling pool sold on eBay

A recall notice has been issued for a popular children's paddling pool with Irish parents warned to stop using the product immediately.

The brightly-coloured inflatable paddling pool sold on eBay was discovered to contain "unacceptable" levels of the chemical DEHP that is harmful to children.

The notice, issued by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, explains: "A safety issue has been identified with a kids’ inflatable paddling pool sold on the eBay platform.

"The risk associated with the product is a chemical risk. The product contains unacceptable levels of the chemical, DEHP, that are classified as unsafe for young children.

"The brand is unknown. The type/number of model is 402858363880. The batch number is unknown. The barcode is unknown.

"The product was sold online through the eBay platform.

"Given the online availability of this product, it may have been sold to customers in the Republic of Ireland."

The CCPC has urged parents who have bought the paddling pool to stop using it immediately and throw it away.

Their advice is: "If you purchased one of these products, please discontinue use immediately, discard the product immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.

"You may wish to contact the online store from where you purchased this product to see if there are any remedies available to you. This can be done via your user account on the relevant platform."
