Irish movie fans don't know what to say as Aisling Bea stars in trailer for controversial Home Alone reboot

Home Alone fans have been left bitterly disappointed with the new trailer for the Disney ’s controversial reboot, Home Sweet Home Alone - with Kildare native Aisling Bea set to play a key role.

The iconic Christmas film is a favourite of millions, with Macauley Culkin's portrayal of Kevin McAllister causing a laugh a minute in the 1990 flick.

The franchise has since spawned four sequels, including the follow up Lost in New York and two straight-to-TV options, the most recent of which came in 2012 with Home Alone': The Holiday Heist.

Nine years on, we're getting a reboot of the original, with Aisling Bea stepping in as the distressed mother of 10-year-old Max Mercer.

Chaos ensues when the parents jet off to Japan, failing to realise Max is missing.

However, this time, the criminals in the reboot are more reluctant than Home Alone’s thieving duo the Wet Bandits, played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, who terrorised Macaulay’s character while trying to ransack his family home.

But all anyone on these shores could talk about was Bea's British accent!

See what you think from the trailer here.

One user tweeted: "I think Aisling Bea 's accent in the new Home Alone is incredible actually and you're all being awfully mean. She's clearly playing someone born in England, who was reared in French Polynesia and spent summers on Tír na nÓg.

Another added: "Not sure what is the worst thing about this. The funniest thing is definitely Aisling Bea trying not to sound Irish but still sounding Irish.

While a third said: "Lads, leave Aisling Bea alone. She's one of us and she's making a dollar. Lets unite in our disappointment and project our collective anger towards her agent for putting her in this position. Hup Kildare!"

Eagle-eyed viewers will have noticed a sneaky appearance from one of the original Home Alone cast.

Around 45 seconds in, viewers caught a glimpse of a police officer’s name badge – reading 'McCallister' – before it was revealed as Devin Ratray, who is reprising his character as Kevin’s bully older brother Buzz.
