Irish MMA star Ian Garry forced to defend himself after 'disrespectful' Instagram post following UFC 285 win

Ian Garry has been forced to defend himself after being criticised for his latest Instagram post.

The Dublin fighter was in action at the weekend as he beat Song Kenan in Las Vegas to improve his unbeaten record to 11-0.

Garry found himself knocked down early in the fight but bounced back to win in the third round.

But the Portmarnock brawler came under fire after sharing a post of his opponent's beaten-up face after the bout.

In his post, Garry said: "When you sign a contract against me, I take it personally. My mission is to let you know you made a bad decision".

Social media users were not happy with the post, branding it as 'disrespectful'.

One user said: "Bad form buddy. Respect your opponent whether you win or lose".

While another said: "Think less of you for this disrespectful post".

And another added: "Bad form mate. You mangled him leave it at that . He didn’t Insult you or your family . Enjoy the victory".

The UFC star responded, defending his decision to post.

He said: "A few people on here find me posting this disrespectful. This has nothing to do with respect. The respect was in the cage I spoke to Song before I spoke to Rogan.

"This image, the fight everything was all over TV and it’s all over socials. This is my work. My attack and my defence. This is what I trained to do and what Song trained and tried to do to me.

"This is part of the game. So you wanna be a fighter? Be ready, this s*** is real. I got dropped and I’ll post that too. I still laugh every time I watch it. I ain’t denying I have a sick and violent mind to me this is art, he was my canvass - I LOVE THIS S***".
