Irish man uses mum's expensive €70 wallpaper to wrap Christmas presents

As families get together over Christmas, there is often a minor falling out or two over helping with the Christmas Dinner or what movie to watch on TV.

But one Irish man revealed that his family's "first Christmas argument" was the result of a pretty expensive mistake made by his brother.

Daniel took to social media on Christmas Eve to reveal that his brother had used their mum's €70 wallpaper to wrap the family's Christmas presents.

He said his mum had bought the pricey wallpaper with the intention of redecorating, but its icy blue colour made it look remarkably similar to a roll of festive wrapping paper.

So, when Daniel's brother came to wrap the presents he had bought for his family, he mistakenly used the wallpaper, thinking it was snow-themed wrapping paper - and used up the entire roll!

Daniel posted a picture of the wrapped Christmas presents along with the roll of wallpaper on his Twitter account where he wrote: "My brother used, as wrapping paper, the €70 wallpaper that Mum had bought to redecorate rooms. Cannot cope! First Christmas argument underway."

The post quickly gained over 230k likes and people were left in stitches by the unfortunate blunder, with many joking they were "praying" for his brother as he now has to face the wrath of their mum.

One person said: "Let us know when the funeral is."

While another added: "Oh my god, the mixed emotions she'll have unwrapping her gift..."

Daniel later revealed that there was no coming back from the mistake for his brother, writing: "Used an entire roll hahaha."

Many others poked fun at the wallpaper itself, Daniel's brother had done the family a favour as they weren't fans of the design.

Someone wrote: "That's rancid wallpaper, so he's doing a favour there!"

As someone else posted: "Looks like he did her a favour."

There was even a poll carried out by Specsavers underneath the tweet which asked fellow Twitter users to decide whether the paper looked more like wallpaper or wrapping paper.

As of the time of writing, the wrapping paper was winning by a landslide - with a whopping 77.4% of the 2,061 votes.

However, it seems Daniel's brother might just be safe from a severe telling-off, after the company that makes the wallpaper, Graham & Brown, reached out to offer Daniel's mum a replacement roll of wallpaper for free.

One of their employees wrote under Daniel's tweet: "I work for @GrahamandBrown who make the wallpaper your Mum loves. As it’s the season of goodwill, and peace to all, I’m sure I can arrange a free replacement roll. So no need to argue! DM me and we’ll get a roll to you in the new year."
