An Irish language street festival is taking place with a series of events in Parnell Square this weekend.
La Mor na Gaeilge is coming to Parnell Square this Sunday, with a number of music and dance workshops, seminars, decoding old Irish text, and history walks taking place from 12pm to 5pm this Sunday April 30.
The theme for this years festival is 'Irish revival - 130 years' with all events free but some are ticketed. The festival is for those who may speak Irish or just want to learn more about the language as ceol, cultúr, caint agus craic will be on offer for all.
Caroline Conroy, Lord Mayor of Dublin said: "I'm incredibly excited for Lá Mór na Gaeilge this Sunday. We had a fantastically positive day last year full of craic, music, talks, and culture and looking at the brilliant events that are all completely free of charge scheduled, I'm looking forward to an even better day this year.
The day will illustrate that the Irish language is alive and welcoming to all in Dublin!"
Some of the events that are up for grabs on the day include bodhran lessons where there will be 50 bodhrans available for people to get involved, an introduction to the uilleann pipes, yoga classes through Irish as well as a number of talks and workshops talking about the Irish language.
Ray Yeates City Arts Officer with Dublin City Council said: “This year in partnership with Conradh na Gaeilge Dublin City Council are excited to have Lá Mór na Gaeilge taking place on Parnell Square for its second year. Please come along to enjoy the caint, cultúr ceol agus craic with us and book your free tickets today!”
The street will be closed off to traffic on the day and tickets can be bought on the La Mor na Gaeilge wesbite.
