Irish islander Catherine dubbed 'main character' after latest episode of Love Island

Irish contestants have a mixed record on Love Island. Some, like Jack Keating and Rob Lipsett, can fly under the radar and make little impact on viewers. But others, like Maura Higgins and Greg O'Shea, can steal the show.

And while it's early days yet, it seems like Catherine Agbaje definitely falls into the latter category as she has been branded a "main character" by viewers of this series of Love Island.

Catherine, 22, has already received plenty of air-time since entering the villa on Monday night and that's only likely to increase as she finds herself involved in the first hint of drama of the ITV summer dating show.

Bombshell Zachariah, who entered the villa at the end of Monday night's episode, was given 24 hours to get to know the girls before picking one to couple up with, leaving that girl's original partner at risk of being dumped from the island.

As Tuesday night's episode closed, Zach was tasked with announcing his decision and he picked Catherine, drawing a smile from the estate agent from Dublin.

The decision sparked a massive reaction on social media, with dozens branding Catherine the "main character" of the series.

"Catherine is the main character she's not going anywhere," one viewer tweeted, with another commenting "Catherine is a main character. You love love love to see it! wow I'm high key gassed too."

A third posted "I'm grinning so hard at Catherine being the main character" and another echoed that sentiment, tweeting: "Catherine is giving main character and I'm here for itttt."

Dubliner Catherine Agbaje (ITV)

Yesterday's odds placed Catherine at 4/1 to be the winning girl but they may well shorten today following the reaction to last night's episode.

Catherine's boss Sebastian Kalmar, meanwhile, has backed the Dubliner to enjoy tremendous success on Love Island as he described her as "fantastic".

He told The Irish Mirror: "We definitely think she’s got what it takes to go all the way. We think she is exceptional, and we wish her the best. We hope she has great success."
