Irish girl, 7, dies in hospital days after Majorca hotel pool fall tragedy

A seven-year-old schoolgirl from Ireland has tragically died several days after after plunging into a hotel pool in Majorca. The heart-breaking incident occurred on Monday at a hotel in the resort of Calas de Mallorca.

The girl was rushed to hospital after being pulled from the water but she sadly died in hospital on Wednesday. Witnesses said the girl had become separated from her parents and fell into the pool, according to the local Ultima Hora newspaper.

Lifeguards immediately rescued her from the water and commenced resuscitation procedures. They fought for more than an hour performing PCR while the child's mother was located with emergency medics also joining the fight to save her.

The girl was rushed to hospital in the island capital Palma, where she was admitted to intensive care. However, she failed to recover and died on Wednesday. Police are investigating the circumstances behind the incident.

Calas de Mallorca is a family resort on the east coast of Majorca based around a series of coves and small inlets.

It was the latest in a string of drowning incidents reported on the holiday island in recent weeks. Two tourists drowned in separate tragedies last week, while a former Dutch professional footballer died after jumping into water last month in the resort of Santa Ponsa.
