Irish fans have said it is 'no surprise' as Rory McIlroy has opted not to play the Irish Open in 2022.
McIlroy previously acted as host for the tournament and won it all back in 2016 but will not compete this year.
The former world number one did play in Mount Juliet last year but missed both the 2019 and 2022 instalments of the tournament.
And speaking to media, McIlroy confirmed he would not be competing at this year's event.
He said: "I'll go to Adare Manor and play JP’s Pro-Am and then just probably be around the area that week, play some links golf and then head to St Andrews maybe the weekend before to get some prep done."
And fans were left disappointed with McIlroy's omission from the National Championship.
And after news broke he would not be playing, one fan said on social media: "No surprise there."
While others took a negative tone saying: "No one cares."
But there were plenty people jumping to the defence of McIlroy, with one user saying: "There would be no Irish open only for @McIlroyRory he saved it a number of years ago."
While another said: "Sure that’s a matter for himself.. it’s his professional career where decisions are made based on money not sentiment. Best of luck Rory"
And another added: "Rory rescued the Irish Open when it was in trouble. He's earned the right to skip if he chooses."
