The cost of living crisis shows no sign of slowing down - but Aldi have come up with a brilliant idea for a simple Halloween costume which wouldn't even set you back 10 cent.
According to S&P's Global Market Intelligence, the Euro zone is heading towards recession in the next 12 months, with Germany the latest nation to be put at risk in their Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI)
That will set alarm bells going for many people who are already struggling to make ends meet, including families with young kids.
Halloween costumes for trick-or-treating can often be expensive when bought from pop-up costume shops or online.
Which is where Aldi have entered the fray, with their take on a classic Irish costume that anyone who grew up in the 80s or 90s will recognise.
They plugged the 'value vampire' - consisting of a black bin bag. You can buy a pack of 20 for €1.59, making the cost of one less than 8 cent.
People flooded to the comments section on the supermarket's Facebook to reveal their own memories of the humble black bin bag.
One wrote: " Every year as a child my mam would take a black bag and make it into a witch costume for me. Always did the job!
A second added: "I had to wear a black bin bag with holes cut out for the arms when I was a kid and a witch mask. Was always a witch every year."
A third laughed: "No care in the world a 50p plastic mask with nylon hair on it and a black bag wrapped around us out till 12 midnight sitting around a bonfire eating sweets and apples telling ghost stories oh and and counting our money! Happy child hood days in the 80s plus I often wonder how we never caught fire"
While a fourth noted: "Back in the 70s and 80s that was the norm, old hats and scarfs and a bit of imagination with make up"
