Many people were pleasantly surprised when they stepped out today to feel a noticeable warmth in the air finally.
After weeks of sub-zero temperatures, snow, and sleet, a glimpse of springtime weather is what we all needed.
For some, the boost in temperatures will continue, but there is a list of unlucky counties that are due to be bogged down by rain and cooler temperatures over the weekend.
Despite the arrival of more showers, Irish forecasters say there are some good dry periods on the way for the middle of the month - particularly for the east and southwest.
Here’s the five-day forecast from Met Eireann:
Today
Cloudy periods and sunny spells with a few isolated showers. Some of the showers will be heavy with possible thunderstorms, mainly in the north midlands and east Ulster. Mild with highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in moderate southerly winds, easing later.
Mostly clear spells tonight with a few lingering showers. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, coldest in the northeast. A few mist and fog patches possible as winds fall to a light southerly.
Friday
A mix of cloud and some sunny spells with widespread showers tomorrow, St. Patrick's Day. The showers will be heavy and prolonged at times with a chance of thunderstorms mainly in the west. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate south to southeast winds, easing later.
Some clear spells overnight but largely cloudy with scattered showers, some still heavy. Later in the night, outbreaks of rain will move in over parts of the west and northwest.
Lowest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees. Mist and fog patches will form in light breezes. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds will develop on Atlantic coasts later as the rain arrives.
Saturday
A wet morning with widespread outbreaks of rain, largely clearing eastwards through the morning and early afternoon.
Most areas becoming dry with some sunny spells, but showery rain will affect much Ulster. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees in moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, strong at times in the northwest.
Dry with clear spells for most though showery rain will continue in parts of Ulster. Cloud will build from the west later.
Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees in moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times along northern coasts.
Sunday
A cloudy day with outbreaks of rain developing in the southwest, gradually extending across the country, reaching the northeast towards evening.
Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. Light to moderate westerly winds will back southerly in the afternoon.
Overnight, the rain will turn heavy at times. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees, mildest in the southwest, in mostly moderate southerly winds.
Monday
Dull and wet at first, with rain tracking northeastwards, followed by sunny spells and widespread showers, heavy at times with thunderstorms possible.
Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, southwesterly winds.
Further Outlook
Current indications suggest that low pressure will continue to dominate our weather, bringing further rain and showers but with good dry periods as well.
Highest temperatures will generally range from 8 to 12 degrees.
