Ireland weather: November start sees 'severely disruptive' conditions amid triple warning from Met Eireann

Met Eireann has forecast a brutal start to the month of November with a triple warning in place as the country braces for high-speed winds and torrential rain.

Today - Tuesday - will be breezy with a mix of sunny spells and showers, which will be scattered this morning, but will become widespread across the country during the afternoon and evening.

Some of the showers will be heavy and prolonged with the possibility of hail. This cold snap will carry over into the night, with clear spells and just a few showers as the lowest temperatures hit 3 degrees in some areas.

However, later in the night, clouds will thicken from the west and southerly winds will strengthen bringing a rise in temperatures.

Rain will spread across the western half of the country later and it will turn very windy nationwide by dawn on Wednesday with gales at the coast.

This will continue into Wednesday as conditions become very windy with a band of heavy and squally rain sweeping eastwards across the country during the morning with localised flooding.

There will be some severe and potentially disruptive wind gusts, especially in Atlantic coastal counties and near the south coast.

Staying very windy or stormy through the afternoon with rain clearing into the Irish Sea and a mix of sunny spells and heavy thundery showers following from the west.

There are three warnings in place on Wednesday as condition reach their peak of disruption, and they are as follows:

Status Yellow - Wind and Rain warning for Ireland

The forecaster warns it will be “Very windy on Wednesday with widespread gales - southerly veering westerly.

“Some severe and damaging gusts may occur. Potential for localised wave overtopping along Atlantic coasts. A spell of heavy rain will occur, leading to flooding in places.”

Status Yellow Wind Warning for Antrim, Down - from the UK Met Office

The UK weather forecasters warn of “a spell of very windy weather is expected to affect Irish Sea coastal areas on Wednesday.

Valid: 07:00 Wednesday, November 2 at 07:00 until Wednesday, November 2 at 18:00

Status Orange - Storm Warning from Roches Point to Slyne Head to Malin Head

The Irish forecaster wanrs of “south to southwest winds, veering west, reaching storm force 10 at times on Irish coastal waters from Roches Point to Slyne Head to Malin Head.
