The latest weather trends show high-pressure building to the North of Ireland, which experts say could bring a risk of a much colder start to the month of March.
As February comes to a close very soon, Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather took to twitter to warn that: “The models really starting to show high-pressure building to North of us next week.
“Long way out yet but this could become a trend and if high sets up there then the risk of colder start to March really increases”.

Many counties enjoyed a taste of Spring’s finest weather on Monday, but for some regions, that comes to an end on Wednesday with the arrival of rain, hail, and thunder.
Despite the incoming change, forecasters suggest that later in the week, things will return to ‘settled’ but ‘cool.’
Here’s what Met Eireann’s forecast predicts for the week ahead:
Today
This morning will be mostly cloudy with patches of drizzle, mist and fog. Rain will develop in the west early this afternoon and will move east across the country, not reaching the east until late evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds.
Wet and breezy early tonight with moderate to fresh southerly winds. Rain will clear eastwards overnight and will be followed by clear spells and scattered showers, some heavy and possibly of hail. With the clearance of the rain, winds will become westerly and ease light to moderate. It will become colder too, with minimum temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees, so frost and ice are possible.
Wednesday
Wednesday will be cold with sunshine and scattered blustery showers. Some of the showers will be heavy, with hail and thunder possible, and some may turn wintry over hills. Afternoon temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees, but feeling colder due to a brisk northwesterly wind.
Showers will become isolated early on Wednesday night, leaving mostly dry and clear conditions. Cloud will increase in the northwest towards morning though, bringing in a few more showers. Cold with frost and possibly ice, as temperatures drop to between -1 and +3 degrees.
Thursday
Thursday morning will be mostly dry with sunny spells. It will become cloudier through the day and a few light showers will develop. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with a light to moderate northwesterly wind.
Partly cloudy skies with isolated light showers, so most areas will stay dry on Thursday night. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees, coldest in the south, with light northwesterly winds.
Friday
Mostly cloudy and dry, with just patches of light rain near northern coasts. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees with a light to moderate north to northwest wind.
Dry with clear spells developing overnight on Friday. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees with a light northerly breeze.
Saturday / Sunday
Dry with light winds and sunshine at times. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees. Cold by night with widespread frost likely.
