Ireland weather: Met Eireann issues washout weekend verdict with horrible conditions

Ireland is in for a washout weekend ahead with the unsettled weather due to continue into next week.

Met Eireann has forecast some horrible conditions for the coming days including 'heavy rain', 'localised flooding' and strong winds.

Thursday is set to be a cloudy day with a mix of sunny spells but 'widespread showers' are set to develop during the afternoon.

However, Friday is when the heavy rain is due to begin, with rain starting in the south of the country and spreading to the north during the day accompanied by strong winds - as Met Eireann warned "localised flooding is possible".

Saturday will be another windy day along with widespread showers or longer spells of rain, that could be heavy in places.

Here is the full Met Eireann forecast for the days ahead:

Thursday, July 13

A mix of cloud and sunny spells this morning, with a few showers around. It will become cloudier during the day with more widespread showers developing during the afternoon. Light to moderate southwest winds. Highest temperatures generally 16 to 19 degrees.

Scattered showers will continue tonight with mostly light southerly winds. Rather cloudy, turning misty in places overnight. Heavy rain and strengthening winds will develop in the southwest before morning. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

Wet and windy on Friday. Heavy rain in the south to start will spread northwards during the day accompanied by fresh to strong easterly winds. It will become drier in the south later in the afternoon with winds easing somewhat. Heavy rain will continue over much of the northern half of the country during the evening. Localised flooding is possible. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees, warmest in the south.

Further outbreaks of rain with some dry spells Friday night, likely driest and clearest in the east. Remaining breezy with moderate to fresh winds, strong at times in coastal areas. Lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.
