Ireland weather: Met Eireann issues important bank holiday weekend update as warm spells of sunshine come to brutal end

Ireland is set to enjoy the last of the summer weather today before the good weather comes to a brutal end just in time for the bank holiday weekend.

Met Eireann has forecast conditions to turn on Saturday as things become overcast with rain to persist most of the day.

The west of the country is to see the worst of the weather. However, rain will become widespread throughout the day.

A forecaster said: “Latest ECMWF charts for the weekend with increased risk of rain Saturday but just some showers Sunday and Monday.”

Here is a more detailed look at Met Eireann’s forecast.

Any mist patches early this morning will clear, with today to be mainly dry with sunny spells mixed with some cloud.

Just the chance of the odd shower. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees, slightly cooler along the eastern coastline, with light easterly or variable winds.

Chilly again tonight but mostly clear and dry. Light easterly winds or near calm conditions will allow patches of mist or fog to form.

Lowest temperatures of 0 to 6 degrees, coldest over the eastern half of the country.

Friday, April 29

Tomorrow, Friday will be mostly dry and bright with hazy spells of sunshine.

Turning cloudier in the afternoon and evening, with cloud spreading eastwards from the Atlantic.

Light easterly or variable breezes, with highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees

Cloud will spread from the west to most regions in the first half of the night.

Most areas will be dry however some light rain or drizzle will develop in the west and northwest.

Light variable winds, becoming southerly overnight. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees, coolest in the southeast.

Saturday, April 30

A cloudy or overcast day with rain spreading from the northwest where it will persist for much of the day.

Away from the north, any rain will be mostly light, and southern areas will likely escape with a mostly dry day.

Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 or 16 degrees, mildest in the south, with light to moderate southwest winds.

Staying cloudy overnight with scattered falls of light rain or drizzle. Misty in parts, with hill fog likely.

A mild night with temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees. Light westerly breezes.

Sunday, May 1

Another mostly cloudy day with showers. Turning drier in the evening with the chance of a late sunny spell.

Light to moderate northerly breezes. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 degrees.

Sunday night will be mostly cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle and limited clear spells.

Some mist or hill fog is likely. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with a light northerly breeze.

Monday, May 2

Overall rather cloudy on Monday with a few light showers and occasional brighter periods.

Highs of 13 to 17 degrees, coolest along western and northern coasts with a light northwest breeze.
