Ireland weather: Met Eireann give chance on edge of UK's 40C heat reaching Ireland as dry and sunny spells remain

Ireland is set for another warm and dry day. However, temperatures will begin to drop back to normal, with highs in the early 20s.

Met Eireann has forecast a few scattered showers to arrive and spread across the country with a risk of mist and fog overnight.

A forecaster said: “A good deal of dry weather on Wednesday with scattered light showers in the morning Showers will die out through the afternoon for a dry evening. Rather cloudy to start, but sunny spells will break through as the day goes on”.

Here is a more detailed look at what the remainder of the week will bring.

Today, July 20

A mostly cloudy start to today with some well scattered showers. However, the cloud will slowly thin out, allowing some sunny spells to develop with primarily dry conditions generally.

Temperatures will be around normal, with highs ranging from 15 degrees in the northwest to 21 degrees in the southeast, all in moderate northwest breezes.

Most areas staying dry tonight under broken cloud but with some mist and fog setting in.

Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in just light variable breezes.

Thursday, July 21

Thursday will bring a mix of cloud and some sunny spells. Whilst it will be mostly dry, some well scattered showers will occur too, with some heavier ones possible in the southeast later.

Highest temperatures will range 15 to 20 degrees in mainly light northerly or variable breezes.

Most areas will be dry overnight with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Some well scattered showers, too, most likely across the southeast.

Lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, with some mist and fog forming in a light variable breeze.

Friday, July 22

Most areas will be dry with warm sunny spells developing. Just a few light passing showers across the south and west of the country.

Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees in light variable breezes.

Rain and drizzle will very slowly push up from the southwest, with some heavy bursts possible.

A mild night with lowest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees in light to moderate southwest winds.

Saturday, July 23

A relatively wet day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle moving up across the country in a moderate southerly airflow.

The rain will be heaviest and most persistent in the west and north, but some sunny spells developing in places too.

A warm and humid day with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees, warmest across the midlands and the east.

Further falls of rain are expected, with some heavy bursts possible overnight. Very mild and humid with hill and coastal fog.

Sunday, July 24

A breezy day with scattered outbreaks of rain. Some warm sunny spells, too though.

Highest temperatures of 17 to 24 degrees, best values across the eastern half of Ireland.
