Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecasts subzero temperatures as conditions turn bitterly cold this weekend

Met Eireann has forecast subzero temperatures this weekend as Ireland is about to turn bitterly cold.

The freezing weather will set in on Saturday night with temperatures across the country falling as low as 0C to -3C.

This will bring a 'sharp frost' as well as some 'icy patches' which could make for dangerous travelling conditions on roads.

Staying largely dry on Friday night under mostly cloudy skies. Lowest temperatures generally between 5 to 8 degrees. Light to moderate southwest winds, fresh along Atlantic coasts.

Saturday, February 4

Many areas will be dry to start but a band of rain and moderate to fresh southwest winds will move in from the Atlantic through the morning. It will brighten up in the north and west during the afternoon as rain tracks southeastwards across the country, becoming light and patchy. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees, but turning colder as rain clears with light northwest winds following.

Cold and clear with a widespread sharp frost and some ice patches on Saturday night. Temperatures widely falling to between 0 and -3 degrees in near calm conditions.
