Met Eireann’s latest forecast predicts the arrival of a dominant high-pressure weather system over Ireland, with primarily dry and settled daytime conditions.
Despite this, nighttime temperatures will continue to plunge as low as -2 bringing with it the risk of frost and ice.
Today will feature a cold start with frost and ice in some places. It will be a mostly dry day with good spells of sunshine, especially across the east and south of the country.

It will turn somewhat cloudier in the west and north during the day with the chance of a few showers while highest afternoon temperatures range from 6 to 9 degrees in moderate north to northwest breezes.
It’ll be largely dry overnight, but with a good deal of cloud and perhaps a few patches of light rain or drizzle will occur.
Lowest temperatures of between 1 and 5 degrees are expected with a touch of frost possible in the south where skies will be clearest early in the night.
There will be plenty of dry weather on Friday with a mix of cloud and some bright or sunny spells.
A few light showers will feed south over the country on a moderate northerly breeze and highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees will be felt.
As for the weekend, “high pressure will dominate, bringing mostly dry and settled conditions,” according to Irish forecasters.
Friday night looks set to be largely dry with long clear spells developing. However, it will be a cold night with temperatures falling back to between -2 and +3 degrees with the chance of some frost.
Saturday will see most of the country stay dry, but it will feel rather chilly in a moderate northeast breeze. Cloud will move in across eastern and southern areas at times with the best chance of sunshine in the west and north of the country.
Top temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees are expected - coldest along Irish Sea coasts.
It’ll continue to be cold and dry on Friday night with cloudy skies across parts of the east and south.
However, there will be good clear spells elsewhere and that will allow some frost to form. Minimum temperatures will range from -2 to +3 degrees and will be coldest in Connacht and west Ulster.
On Sunday, any frost will clear in the morning to leave a dry day with a mix of cloud and bright spells. Highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees in a moderate east or southeast breeze, fresh along southern and southeastern coasts - staying dry on Sunday night.
Temperatures will fall back to between -1 and+2 degrees, but it will be somewhat less cold along the eastern and southern coasts in a moderate southeast breeze.
