Ireland's cold snap will persevere into the weekend as temperatures look set to dip to -3C overnight in the days ahead.
Frost and ice will form in many areas thanks to the "near calm" conditions before a big change next week.
One weather expert says there is "good news" as it looks like little rain will fall for the next few days, with the weekend looking positive "for a change".
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said on Thursday night: "Some good news, very little rainfall for the next 5 days. Some frosty night but also some nice days with good sunny spells with just odd shower. Weekend looks good for a change!"
Before then, Met Eireann has forecast a frosty, sunny start for today, with cloud set to bubble up and there'll be isolated showers this afternoon. Highest temperatures of 7 to 9C in light to moderate northerly breezes.
It will be dry and clear tonight, it will be cold and frosty with ice patches forming as temperatures fall back to between -3 and 0C.
A forecaster said: "Saturday is expected to be a dry and sunny day with light winds. After a cold and frosty start afternoon temperatures will range between 7 and 10C as light to moderate northeast winds fall light and variable.
"Cold and mostly dry on Saturday night with just the chance of an isolated shower along eastern and southeastern coasts. Lowest temperatures of -3 to -1C, coldest in the west of the country with frost and ice forming again in near calm conditions.
"A cloudier day on Sunday. It will stay mainly dry with light, isolated showers in the east. Afternoon temperatures of 7 to 10C in moderate east or southeast winds.
"Another cold night on Sunday night with clear spells and isolated light showers. Lowest temperatures of 0 to -2C with a moderate southeast breeze."
As for next week, they added: "A cold, breezy and cloudy day on Monday with patches of rain or drizzle, chiefly affecting southern and western counties. Afternoon temperatures of 6 to 9C in fresh and gusty southeast winds.
"A cloudy and breezy night, Monday night, with patchy light rain and drizzle mostly affecting western and southern coastal areas. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4C in strong and gusty southeast winds.
"Tuesday will be a mainly dry and cloudy day, once again with patchy light rain and drizzle affecting coastal regions. Temperatures of 6 to 9C in southerly breezes.
"Current indications suggest Wednesday and Thursday will turn increasingly windy with outbreaks of rain likely."
