Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecasts big change as airflow to bring unseasonable conditions

Ireland is set to experience a break from the rain in the coming days thanks to one airflow passing over the country.

Met Eireann has forecast "drier and more settled" conditions with temperatures set to be slightly higher than average for this time of year.

The mercury will also hit 17C over several days this week thanks to the presence of high pressure in the upper atmosphere.

The long range forecast for April 22 to April 28 says: "The first week in the outlook period will be drier and more settled with low pressure drifting away to the south of the country.

"A predominantly easterly flow will bring drier air across Ireland and while there will be a few showers at times it will stay much drier overall. Higher temperatures in the upper atmosphere will help to inhibit any convective weather over the course of the week too with temperatures staying slightly above average for this time of year."

Before then, Wednesday will see any mist and fog clearing in the morning. Most areas will stay dry for the day but cloud will gradually increase over the western half of the country, bringing patchy light rain or drizzle to west Connacht and west Munster. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees.

A forecaster said for Wednesday night: "Mostly dry with some clear spells and isolated light showers. Cloudy in the west and southwest for a time, with patchy light rain or drizzle near the coast. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees with light to moderate east to southeast or variable winds."

They said that Thursday "will be mostly dry with sunny spells and just isolated showers. Some drizzle may drift into the southwest too. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees with a moderate to fresh east to southeast breeze".

Here is the rest of Met Eireann's forecast for the days ahead:

THURSDAY NIGHT: Dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with light to moderate northeasterly winds.

FRIDAY: A breezy day with variable cloud cover and some sunny spells. Cloudiest conditions are expected in the south, bringing scattered outbreaks of light rain, but everywhere else there will just be isolated light showers. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in a fresh east to northeast breeze.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly dry and clear at first, but it will get cloudier overnight and light showers will drift into the east and southeast. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with light to moderate northeasterly winds.

SATURDAY: Most areas will be dry at first, with a few sunny intervals, but it will get cloudier in the late morning and afternoon with scattered showers developing. It will be dry again in most areas by evening. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in a moderate northeasterly breeze.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Generally dry with clear spells, although there is a chance of showers developing in the southwest. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with a light east to northeast breeze.

SUNDAY: Sunday is looking mostly dry and sunny but there may be showers in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees in a light to moderate easterly breeze.

OUTLOOK FOR EARLY NEXT WEEK: It looks like early next week will be mild and settled with little rainfall.
