Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast thunderstorms ahead of big change with 18C heat in some areas

Irish coasts are in for a battering this week with expected thunderstorms from Tuesday before a major change in conditions this weekend, when some lucky areas will reach 18C.

Friday is due to bring the glorious weather - particularly in the east - stretching into Saturday with dry and sunny spells expected for most regions.

Sunday will see the return of rain as early indications for next week show mild temperatures and conditions on the horizon with just minor showers expected.

Here’s a day to day breakdown of the weather in the run-up to some much-needed sunshine:

Tuesday

Most areas across Ireland will be dry at first today, before the rain is due to spread northwards this morning - mainly affecting Munster and Leinster.

Some brighter intervals are expected in the west and north, but there will be some heavy showers in all areas by the afternoon and evening time, some of hail.

Highest temperatures will be mild, ranging from 10 to 15 degrees, and the coolest conditions will be in the east and mildest in the west with light southeast or variable breezes.

Wednesday

On Wednesday morning, mist and fog will clear slowly and the day will brighten up.

There will be sunny spells alongside a few showers - most prominent in Connacht and Ulster.

It’ll be a mild day with highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees and mostly light southwest breezes.

Thursday

Thursday is going to be a mostly cloudy day.

It will start off mainly dry, however, outbreaks of rain and drizzle will gradually spread eastwards across the country as the day goes on.

Temperatures will remain mild with highs of 16 degrees and moderate southerly breezes.
