Ireland is set for a dull and at times wet weekend with Met Eireann forecasting Donegal to be hit with particularly bad rain on Saturday - but there is hope of good weather soon.
Much of the country will see plenty of cloud cover today but Donegal has been warned of getting the worst of it by the national forecaster.
A Met Eireann spokesperson said: "Staying mostly overcast today with fairly persistent rain or drizzle, turning heavy at times, especially over higher ground in Donegal. In contrast parts of the southwest could have a mostly dry day with the chance of a few brighter spells. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees, mildest in the southwest.
"Southwesterly winds will be fresh at times in the north, but generally light to moderate elsewhere."
And the rest of the weekend will be similar although a bit more pleasant in many places on Sunday and Monday.
The forecaster added: "Sunday will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain, along with some heavier, showery bursts at times in the east during the afternoon. Gradually turning drier and brighter from the north by evening with a chance of some late sunny spells in the north and northeast. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, in light variable breezes.
"Bank-holiday Monday will start fairly cloudy in the morning with patchy outbreaks of rain. Some scattered showers will develop throughout the afternoon, breaking up the cloud and allowing some bright or sunny intervals to develop by evening. Highs of 13 to 17 degrees, in light northerly breezes."
But the week ahead is looking largely positive with temperatures reaching 17C or higher on many days and there could be even more good news to follow.
Forecaster Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather is keeping an eye on the Azores High which could bless the country with some fine conditions in little over a week.
He tweeted: "This evenings weather charts offer some hope, with a chance of our old friend the Azores High coming up to visit us in around 10 days time. It is only hope at this stage but with a damp or wet day ahead tomorrow we need some hope right?"
