Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast miserable conditions to batter Ireland as worst affected areas pinpointed

Ireland is set to see a lot of heavy rain and high winds over the coming days, with a status Yellow Rain warning having expired this morning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo.

Localised flooding is expected to have affected some areas this morning, with road users advised to drive with caution.

A Yellow Wind Warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry has also been issued by the UK Met Office Weather Warning for Wednesday and will remain in place throughout the full day.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann has announced a Status Yellow Gale warning from Howth Head to Carnsore Point to Roches Point and on the Irish Sea.

It will be in place from 12am Wednesday to 7am.

However, it is not all bad news as some spells of sunshine will be seen throughout the week as bands of rain move across the country.

Here is a more detailed look at what is to come.

Today, October 4

Cloudy and rather damp with outbreaks of rain through much of the day. Highest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly or variable winds.

Widespread outbreaks of rain will continue through much of tonight, heaviest along Atlantic coastal counties.

By morning, the rain will become confined mainly to Leinster and Ulster, with scattered showers following elsewhere.

Turning quite windy once again with strengthening southerly winds increasing fresh to strong and later veering westerly. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.

Wednesday, October 5

The rain will clear northeastwards early tomorrow morning, leaving a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers for the rest of the day.

Some of the showers may turn heavy or thundery. The best of the dry intervals will come in the evening.

Staying somewhat blustery with mainly moderate to fresh westerly winds. Highest afternoon temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees, warmest in the southeast.

Largely clear with occasional showers overnight, most frequent in western areas.

Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees. Mainly light to moderate southwesterly winds, blustery along Atlantic coasts.

Thursday, October 6

A mix of sunny spells and showers, most frequent in western areas. The best of the sunshine will be in the south.

Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees in moderate southwesterly winds.

Showers will give way to more persistent rain on Thursday night, becoming heavy in some areas. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in moderate southwesterly winds.

Friday, October 7

The persistent rain will clear to the southeast on Friday morning, leaving a further mix of sunny spells and scattered showers.

Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in moderate westerly winds.

Largely clear with isolated showers overnight. Somewhat chilly with lows of 6 to 9 degrees. Westerly winds easing mainly light.

Saturday, October 8

A mix of sunny spells and isolated showers. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light westerly winds, backing southerly.

Considerable uncertainty remains for the further outlook. Early indications are that Sunday will turn very wet and dull once more.
