Ireland is set to endure another few days of freezing weather before a big change next week.
Temperatures will plummet on several nights this week with frost and fog expected.
However, the good news is that better weather is on the way thanks to an airflow passing over the country.
From next week, high pressure will be the main influence on the weather which indicates dry and settled conditions.
Average air temperatures are expected to be average and above average in some areas, meaning it will be milder than unusual towards the end of January.
Before then, Wednesday night will be cold with northwesterly winds decreasing mostly light and with a fairly widespread frost developing, as temperatures drop to between -1 and 3C.
It will be a little less cold in the north and northwest where frost is unlikely as it will remain mostly cloudy there and a little breezier for a time.
A forecaster said: "A bright, cold and a frosty start tomorrow morning in many places. The frost will clear to leave a dry day with plenty of sunshine.
"Cloud will tend to spread from the northwest through the day, with the best of the sunshine remaining across the southern half of the country. Highest temperatures of 6 to 8C with light northwest or variable breezes.
"Thursday night will be mainly dry with clear spells over Leinster and Munster. It will be cloudier over Connacht and Ulster with a little patchy drizzle developing in coastal areas.
"Lowest temperatures of -1 to 4c, coldest in Leinster and Munster with frost and some patches of mist or fog developing."
Looking towards the weekend, the forecaster added: "Friday will be mainly dry with bright or sunny spells and light variable breezes. There may be a little drizzle at times on west and northwest coasts.
"Highest temperatures of 6 to 8C with light breezes. Friday night will be mainly dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 5C, coldest in Leinster and Munster with frost and some mist or fog patches developing.
"Saturday will continue mainly dry. The best of the bright or sunny spells will be in Leinster and Munster. It will be cloudier in Ulster and Connacht with perhaps a little drizzle in north Ulster. Highest temperatures of 6 to 8C with light southerly breezes. Saturday night will continue mainly dry with lowest temperatures of 0 to 5C.
"Sunday will continue dry with bright or sunny spells, the best of these in the east and south. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9C with light to moderate southerly breezes."
