Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast end of warm conditions and give bleak update on start of summer

Ireland will welcome in the summer in a traditional fashion - with awful weather conditions.

That's according to Met Éireann, who have predicted long spells of rain over the next few weeks, with other experts also warning that temperatures will take a nosedive as well.

Over the last few days we've seen rain, hail and some glorious sunshine, but the unpredictability of the weather seems to be continuing into May.

Met Éireann publish a monthly forecast to go alongside their day-to-day predictions.

Right now, things are looking pretty grim for May - with the national forecaster saying that "all areas" will be affected once the showers really kick in.

In the second week of the current forecast (which runs from Friday, April 29 to Thursday, May 5), Met Éireann say "there will be a little more wet weather with all areas of the country to get slightly more rainfall than average" as Ireland sits between high and low pressures.

Week three (May 6 to May 12) is where things start to turn bad, with the forecast reading :"Low pressure will start building from the southwest bringing a period of more active weather across the country.

"While temperatures will stay around average it will be a wetter week than usual with most areas of the country seeing above average rainfall. Lower upper air temperatures will allow for more convective weather but this is mainly for the western half of the country."

And to finish it off, week four (May 13 to May 19) will be "wetter than average countrywide."

As if that wasn't bad enough, expert Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has been tracking the charts, and he thinks that things will turn fairly nippy to go alongside some of those showers!
