Ireland weather: Map shows it could feel colder than expected as Met Eireann forecast windy turn

Winds are expected to pick up across Ireland on Sunday, which could make it feel colder than expected.

Daytime temperatures of 6C to 9C are forecast, but it could feel a lot colder than that due to windchill.

Weather expert Alan O’Reilly shared a windchill map on his Carlow Weather Twitter account, which shows temperatures could feel as low as 0C in parts of Ireland on Sunday.

“Wind increasing and feeling cool as you can see here with latest windchill forecast,” he wrote.

In its latest forecast, Met Eireann said it will be mostly cloudy today, with very few sunny spells.

In a post on its website, the National Forecaster said: “Sunday will be mostly cloudy with limited bright or sunny periods. There will be patches of drizzle, mainly in western and southern coastal counties.

“Highest temperatures of 6C to 9C with light to moderate southerly winds, fresher near coasts in the west and northwest.

“Tonight will continue mostly cloudy with just occasional clear spells. There will be patchy drizzle, mainly in southern and western coastal counties, and some mist too.

“Lowest temperatures of 2C to 6C generally, but possibly dipping lower locally under any clear spells, with light to moderate southerly winds.”

Looking ahead to next week, Met Eireann forecasts: “Some rain midweek, but otherwise staying quite settled with temperatures slightly above average.”

Monday is set to be mostly dry and temperatures could reach double digits in parts.

Met Eireann said: “There will be a fair amount of dry weather on Monday morning and afternoon, with patches of drizzle and occasional bright or sunny periods. Outbreaks of rain will become more frequent in the northwest during the afternoon, however, extending across Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster through the evening.

“Highest temperatures of 7C to 11C with light to moderate southerly or variable breezes.

“Mostly cloudy on Monday night, with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle across the centre of the country. Drier and clearer in northern areas, where there will be frost and patches of mist and fog.

“Lowest temperatures of -1C to 6C, coldest in Ulster and north Connacht, with a light and variable breeze.”

Met Eireann says more of the same weather is expected through the week, before it’s expected to turn more unsettled for next weekend.
