The warm weather is set to peak next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with long-range weather maps showing temperatures in the mid-20s.
The good weather is set to start building from the weekend.
Giving its forecast for Friday, the State meteorological service said: “Tomorrow will bring further sunny spells throughout the day. There will be a few isolated showers, mainly in the morning in Connacht and Ulster, becoming clearer in the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 14C to 19C, warmest in the southeast, with a light to moderate northwesterly breeze.”
Looking ahead to the weekend, it continued: “On Saturday morning it will be dry and sunny in the south and east but cloudier with patchy light rain or drizzle across much of Connacht and Ulster. It will become cloudier everywhere during the afternoon with scattered light rain or drizzle but it will become drier again by evening with some hazy sunny spells
“Highest temperatures 15C to 20C degrees in a light west to northwest wind.
“Dry with sunny spells on Sunday morning but it will become cloudier in the afternoon with patches of drizzle possible near Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 16C to 21C with light and variable breezes.”
The national forecaster says temperatures could reach 22C on Monday.
It said: “Monday morning will be dry with sunny spells but it will likely become cloudier as the day goes on, with rain possibly affecting the northwest later. Highest temperatures of 16C to 22C with a light west to southwest wind.”
Looking ahead to next week, it said: “High pressure looks set to be the dominant feature of Ireland’s weather. It will be often dry and settled with just occasional showers and rainfall totals are expected to be well below normal for early August.”
While some long-range weather models are showing temperatures of up to 27C on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Met Eireann has insisted they will remain at “near normal” levels.
It concluded: “Whilst the weather will be often dry and settled with some good sunshine, mean air temperatures are forecast to be near-normal.”
