Ireland to get 'welcome rest from bad weather' as Met Eireann forecasts warm spell and balmy conditions

Ireland is set to enjoy a respite from bad weather over the bank holiday weekend and into next week thanks to the arrival of warmer conditions.

A high pressure system over the next week means temperatures will rise with dry weather also forecast.

According to one weather expert, "a very welcome rest from bad weather" is on the way.

Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather said on Wednesday: "Total rainfall forecast for the next 10 days show how very little rainfall expected with high pressure close by. A very welcome rest from bad weather."

Before then, the rest of St Patrick's Day will see a dry evening with a mostly clear and calm night.

Temperatures will drop to between -2 to 3C with some frost developing while mist and fog patches may form, most likely in southern areas.

A forecaster continued: "Mainly dry with good sunny spells for Friday, but a little cloudier for southern areas. Cloud may also move onto some eastern and western coasts in the afternoon.

"Northern parts will be noticeably milder than today. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15C, coolest near eastern and southern coasts.

"Staying dry with plenty of clear skies [on Friday night] and a little milder overnight too with that southeast wind persisting. Lows of 3 to 6C expected overnight with the east of the country being the coolest.

"The rather pleasant, dry and sunny spell of weather continues for Saturday with highs reaching the low-teens with 10 to 15C expected.

"Staying dry in the southeast breeze through to Saturday evening but one or two showers will clip Munster. Clear skies overnight but that southeast breeze persisting will help keep the overnight lows up slightly with 3 to 6C forecast."

They added for Sunday: "A little more cloud will build along western counties where there will be a few showers too during the morning and afternoon. Further east, bright and sunny spells will develop with a moderate southeast breeze.

"Continuing mild with highest temperatures of 10 to 14C. Later in the evening the clear skies over the eastern half of the country will allow temperatures to drop below freezing with some frost patches possible.

"Monday will be a good mix of sunny spells and cloudy periods. It will stay mostly dry too with highs of 9 to 12C and a light easterly breeze. Cool overnight with lows of 1 to 4C.

"More cloud will build from the south early Tuesday morning and this will spread further north by the afternoon.

"The cloud will also bring a shower or two but these will mostly affect southern and western coastal areas. Another mild day with highs of 12 to 15C in a moderate southeast breeze."
