Ireland will be as hot as Malaga at times this week as a long-awaited hot spell finally arrives.
Met Eireann says temperatures will reach the low 20s, or possibly higher, in the coming days, alongside “dry”, “sunny” and “summer like conditions”.
The expected temperatures of 24C means Ireland will be hotter than parts of the south of Spain, where Malaga is expecting highs of just 18C today and rain.

In comparison, Ireland will enjoy days of dry, sunny and warm conditions.
The national forecaster says the good weather will stick around until at least the weekend, and may even continue into next week.
Giving a day by day breakdown, it said: “Dry Monday afternoon and evening with good spells of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 14C to 19C (north to south) in light to moderate northwest breezes.
“Staying dry Monday night with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4C to 9C in a light northwesterly breeze.
“Tuesday will be dry for most with good spells of sunshine, especially in the south and east. Cloudier in the west and north with possible coastal drizzle. Highest temperatures of 13C to 19C, coolest along northern and Atlantic fringes but mild in sunshine, in no more than moderate northwest breezes.
“Dry and clear Tuesday night, apart from coastal showers in the northwest. Lows of 4C to 8C in light northeasterly breezes.
“Dry and mostly sunny Wednesday, though cloudier skies across the northwest will produce some light rain or showers. Highest temperatures of 14C to 19C, in just light northwest breezes with best values across the east and southeast.
“Warm and sunny Thursday with temperatures climbing into the high teens or low 20s widely, possibly higher in prolonged sunshine further south. Winds will be mostly light northerly, though coastal breezes will set in at times.
“Little change for Friday and the weekend with warm and summer like conditions continuing.”
Looking ahead to next week, it continued: “Conditions are expected to stay relatively settled for this week [May 29 to June 4] with a region of high pressure to the north of the country continuing to dominate our weather. This will provide a generally easterly airflow, which will likely keep temperatures above average for the time of year. Rainfall amounts are expected to stay below average.”
