Ireland's Nations League match with Ukraine set for neutral venue as Russia loses Champions League final

Ireland’s UEFA Nations League tie away to Ukraine this summer is set to be moved to a neutral venue due to the ongoing conflict in the country.

Stephen Kenny’s side are scheduled to face Ukraine in Lviv on June 14th but that now looks unlikely following the invasion of the country by Russia on Thursday.

UEFA’s Executive Committee has decreed that all clubs and national teams in Russia and Ukraine must compete in neutral venues until further notice.

The Champions League final, which had been due to take place in Saint Petersburg Gazprom Arena on May 28th, has been moved to Stade de France in Paris.

Ireland open their Nations League campaign at home to Ukraine on June 4th, before travelling to Armenia three days later.

Scotland are the visitors to the Aviva Stadium on June 11th before the return fixture with Ukraine at a location that is yet to be determined.

“The UEFA executive committee decided to relocate the final of the 2021/22 UEFA Men’s Champions League from St Petersburg to Stade de France in St Denis.

“The game will be played as initially scheduled on Saturday May 28 at 2100 CET.

“UEFA wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to French Republic president Emmanuel Macron for his personal support and commitment to have European club football’s most prestigious game moved to France at a time of unparalleled crisis.”
