Irish WWE star Becky Lynch is among the most trolled professional female athletes in the world, a new study has revealed.
She is ranked third behind four-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, who received a total of 14,077 tweets with 65.11% of them being negative and Sha'Carri Richardson, who received 11,090, with 8,183 of them being negative.
As for Lynch, out of the 8,705 she received, 6,632 were negative, the research from BonusFinder found.
Despite being roundly praised in the media for being a top performer in 2021, the data reveals that 76.19% of tweets about Lynch were negative - this can arguably be attributed to her high number of ‘tweets in total’.
Lynch ranked ahead of prominent athletes such as Naoimi Osaka, Ronda Rousey and Megan Rapinoe in the findings.
It marks a turnaround in the public perception of the wrestler, who was named in sixth place on Twitter's list of Top Female Athletes Worldwide in 2019.
Lynch's success and status as the highest paid female wrestler in the WWE may be a factor in the online trolling she receives.
As of April 2020, her salary was an estimated $3.1 million, making her the highest paid female wrestler and also ranking her as the sixth highest paid performer overall.
