Ireland poised for mid-week scorcher with temperatures as hot as Monaco before ‘weather anomaly’

Ireland is poised for a mid-week scorcher with temperatures as hot as Monaco.

Met Eireann has forecast highs of 16C at times this week, which will match the city on the French riviera.

The good weather is expected to last all week as high pressure remains positioned close to Ireland.

However, a ‘weather anomaly’ is predicted to hit in mid-May.

In its long-range forecast for the period of May 16 to 22, Met Eireann said: “Week four of the monthly forecast suggests a low pressure anomaly to the west and southwest of Ireland.

“It suggests that mild, topical air will move in over Ireland at times. So, it looks like being mild and humid at times with above average rainfall and above average temperatures. However, severe weather is unlikely.”

In the meantime, Ireland is set to enjoy a dry, warm and settled week of weather.

In its outlook for the week, the National Forecaster said: “Staying settled for the rest of the week as high pressure remains positioned close to Ireland. Feeling mild where sunny spells develop, but turning cool by night.”

Monday was largely dry and sunny with temperatures of 16C. It’s set to turn cooler overnight, dropping to freezing in parts with grass frost possible.

Looking ahead to Tuesday, Met Eireann said: “Tomorrow will be mainly dry and bright with long sunny spells. However, scattered showers will develop through the day. Highest temperatures of 12C to 15C in a light to moderate easterly breeze.

“Another mainly dry night on Tuesday with clear spells and just one or two lingering showers. Quite cool with lowest temperatures of 3C to 6C in a light easterly breeze. A few patches of mist and fog will develop overnight.”

Midweek is set to be mostly dry, bright and sunny with mild temperatures.

A forecaster continued: “Wednesday morning will be largely dry and bright with sunny spells. It will turn cloudier as the day goes on with well scattered showers developing. Highest temperatures ranging from 10C in the east to 15C in the west in light to moderate easterly winds.

“Slightly cloudier on Thursday, though remaining mostly dry with just isolated light showers. Highest temperatures of 11C to 15C in light winds.

“Dry with sunny spells for most of the day on Friday, though cloud will build from the west later on. Highest temperatures of 12C to 16C in a light variable breeze.”

There could be a change for the weekend, with Met Eireann’s forecast reading: “Current indications suggest that the weekend will be cloudier with the chance of patchy rain and drizzle.”
