Ireland jobs: Australian healthcare recruiters coming to Dublin to offer roles to Irish medical staff

Recruiters looking to bring medical staff from Ireland to Australia are set to arrive in the capital this weekend.

The St John of God healthcare group which has 24 hospitals and facilities across Australia will be in Dublin for one-on-one interviews on Sunday, October 23 and Monday, October 24 as part of their recruitment drive which also includes London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester in the UK. It is their intention to conduct interviews at these events and to offer jobs on the spot or soon after.

They are looking to recruit nurses, midwives and doctors. Particular areas of interest include nurses with experience in surgical theatres, emergency departments (accident and emergency), midwifery, critical care/ICU and mental health and doctors who have completed their internship.

Recruiters say that their visit to Ireland is not about trying to poach medical staff from Ireland but about giving staff the opportunity to develop new skills and experiences which, if they wish, they can then bring back to Ireland. At the same time they will be experiencing a new lifestyle, improved work life balance and the chance to work in hospitals, many of them teaching hospitals, that are renowned for acute clinical excellence and highly regarded patient-centred care

Dani Meinema, Group Director Nursing and Patient Experience at St John of God Health Care said: “While we are fortunate that COVID-19 didn’t overwhelm our health care system in Australia, there has been extra pressure and stress on all health care clinicians due to the pandemic and many have reduced their hours or dropped out of the workforce to pursue other careers.

‘The lengthy closure of international borders meant we weren’t able to access those highly skilled, experienced clinicians from overseas who typically complement our staff and we now have a shortfall. These events are about giving staff who are interested in experiencing life in Australia, the opportunity to develop new skills and experiences which, if they wish, they can then ultimately bring back home. We can offer a different lifestyle, which in many places is centred on the beach, improved work life balance and the chance to work in hospitals, many of them teaching hospitals that are renowned for acute clinical excellence and highly regarded patient-centred care.”

The dates for interview in Dublin, Ireland:

  • Saturday 22 October 2022 – Healthcare Job Fair at RDS, 10.00am to 4.00pm
