Ireland ace Dara O’Shea is closing in on a Premier League return.
The centre-back is in talks with promoted Burnley about joining Vincent Kompany’s team from West Brom.
Negotiations are at an advanced stage, according to reports in England, with a medical expected at Turf Moor in the next 48-hours.
O’Shea’s deal with the Baggies runs until the end of the 2025 season but West Brom are under pressure to sell players to ease their financial burden.
O’Shea has been a big hit since joining as a youth in 2015 and he made 41 appearances in all competitions in the season just finished.
He also featured 28 times in the Premier League during their 2020/21 season.
The 24-year-old suffered a knee injury in March that ruled him out of action for the final two months of the Championship season.
But he recovered in time to be named in Stephen Kenny’s Ireland squad for the Euro qualifiers with Greece and Gibraltar.
His lack of club action counted against him and Kenny sided with Darragh Lenihan for the Greece clash in Athens.
But Ireland were torn apart in a costly 2-1 defeat and O’Shea was quickly restored to the team for the 3-0 win over Gibraltar on Monday.
O’Shea’s arrival at Burnley would push Luke McNally down the pecking order although the centre-back was expected to go on loan regardless.
McNally, the former St Pat’s and Drogheda United player, impressed on loan with Coventry City last season and another Championship loan spell beckons.
At Burnley, O’Shea will join forces with Ireland team-mates Josh Cullen and Michael Obafemi.
