Ireland international Dara O'Shea completes move to Premier League side Burnley

Republic of Ireland international Dara O'Shea has completed his move to newly promoted Burnley.

The 24-year-old signs from West Bromwich Albion on a four-year deal which will see the Dubliner ply his trade in claret and blue until 2027.

O'Shea broke into the West Brom team during the 2019/2020 season and played a key role in their promotion push. The defender went on to make 28 Premier League appearances in the following season as the Baggies finished 19th in the table.

He joins Vincent Kompany's newly promoted team who finished top of the Championship and bounced back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

“It feels great to be here and I really can’t wait to get going," O'Shea said after his signing was confirmed.

"Burnley were the outstanding team last season and they achieved exceptional things. I want to improve as a player first and foremost and I want to help the club achieve their goals.

"I’m at the stage of my career now when I want to push myself. I want to be the best I can be and this is the club that can help me do that and I can help them too.”

Speaking about his new signing, Kompany hailed O'Shea as a 'leader' and said he would be a 'great' addition to the squad.

"It’s great to welcome Dara to Burnley and we know he can play a big part in the progression of our football club. Strong at the back as well as confident moving forward, a leader with experience and knowledge of playing at the highest level.

"Dara will be a great addition to our squad and we can’t wait to start working with him.”

The 19 times capped Ireland international becomes Burnley's second defensive signing of the season after Jordan Beyer made the move to Turf Moor last month.

Burnley will kick-off their Premier League season at home to three-time defending champions Manchester City on August 11th.
