Met Eireann has forecast a dramatic weather change within days as the current cold snap melts and temperatures rise significantly.
A nationwide Status Yellow Ice warning remains in place this morning, reading: “Icy stretches, with freezing fog in places, leading to hazardous travelling conditions.”
It’s due to expire at noon, however the chilly weather is expected to continue for a few more hours.

Overnight, temperatures fell as low as -7C in parts - but Met Eireann has forecast a 20C swing within days.
Temperatures of up to 13C are forecast for Monday with the national forecaster saying it will “feel milder through this weekend and into next week”.
Talking about today’s weather, it said: “Overcast this morning in the southwest and west with patchy rain and drizzle, becoming more isolated as drier conditions prevail. Elsewhere a mostly dry day with some sunny spells developing. Cloud will increase in all areas by evening. Remaining chilliest in the north with highest temperatures of 3C to 8C in light southeast breezes.
“Some frost or ice early in the night across the north and east, before cloud increases, with patchy drizzle along southern and western fringes. Lowest temperatures of -2C to 3C, in light to moderate south to southeast breezes.”
Looking ahead to the weekend, it continued: “Generally dry and cloudy to begin on Saturday. Patchy outbreaks of rain developing, with more persistent rain in the west later. Highest temperatures of 8C to 10C in mostly moderate southerly winds, fresher along coasts.
“Mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain Saturday night, heaviest in the south with hill, mist and coastal fog too. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 8C in light to moderate southerly breezes.
“Damp or locally wet to begin Sunday as overnight rain clears into the Irish Sea. Generally dry into the afternoon with more in the way of sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 9C to 12C in mostly light southwest breezes.
“Mostly dry to start Sunday night with outbreaks of rain developing in western areas towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 5C to 7C in light southerly or variable breezes.”
Its forecast for next week reads: “Mostly dull with patchy outbreaks of rain Monday morning, however amounts look fairly minimal. Low cloud and coastal fog too though. Feeling mild with highest temperatures of 11C to 13C in light southwest breezes.
“Cloudy Monday night with patchy rain or drizzle. Continuing mild with temperatures not falling below 9C to 10C in light southwesterly or variable breezes.
“Dull and cloudy Tuesday with patchy rain or drizzle at times. Highest temperatures of 10C to 12C in light to moderate southwesterly breezes.”
