Ireland heatwave: Met Eireann forecast hottest day of the year as Dublin set for scorching 32c heat

Today will be the hottest day of the year so far as Dublin is set to bake in 32c heat, according to Met Eireann.

Met Eireann's latest weather forecast this morning describes Monday in Dublin as "hot, dry and mostly sunny". Temperatures in the capital will range between a whopping 27 to 32c but will be "a little cooler close to the coast as southerly breezes will veer southeasterly".

Temperatures are expected to cool down after today as the heatwave comes to an end. Here's Met Eireann's forecast for the coming days:

Tonight

"Tonight will be warm and muggy with temperatures staying above 16 to 20 degrees. It will be mainly dry with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Some mist and fog will develop in mostly light variable winds.

Tuesday

"Tuesday will continue very warm with highest temperatures of 24 to 26 degrees. While there will be hazy sunny spells in the morning, isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon, while winds will veer northwesterly and increase moderate.

Wednesday

"Temperatures will return to average on Wednesday with a mix of cloud and sunny spells and some scattered light showers during the morning becoming mostly confined to western fringes during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees generally, warmest in the southeast in mostly moderate northwest winds, fresh along Atlantic coasts.

Thursday

"Becoming mostly cloudy during the morning with patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending from the Atlantic to western parts later in the day. Highs of 15 to 19 degrees, coolest in the northwest with light variable breezes falling calm at times.

Friday

"Rain in the east will clear through the morning, with a mix of sunny spell and a few showers following from the west. Highest temperatures will range from about 16 to 21 degrees in light northerly breezes."
